Dowel Stool

Description

20 Dowels. No Shortcuts.

Most stools are a seat on top of four legs. The SF Duka Dowel Stool is a bit more interesting than that. Twenty 1-inch dowels are sandwiched between two shaped wooden boards, and the four corner dowels extend through the bottom board to become the legs. That’s it. No extra hardware, no hidden frame. The dowels are the structure.

It’s the kind of thing that looks simple until someone picks it up and asks how it’s made.

The Design

The whole build is an exercise in doing more with less.

• 20 Dowels (4 Legs) : The corner dowels pass through the bottom board and become the legs. The rest form the body. One material, one idea, carried all the way through.
• Shaped Boards, Rounded Corners : No sharp edges. The top and bottom boards are cut and shaped for a clean, considered finish.
• Solid Construction : This is a seat, not a decorative piece. It holds weight, it handles daily use, and it looks good doing it.
• Natural or Stained Finish : Take it as raw timber or choose a stain that works with your space.

• Option 1: The Finished Piece (We’ll Build It For You) – Built and finished in our Nairobi workshop. Choose your finish at checkout and we’ll deliver it to your door.
• The Workshop Experience (You build it yourself at SF Duka on a Saturday) – The joinery is precise but achievable, you’ll understand exactly why it works once you’ve put it together yourself. Add to cart, pick the workshop option, and come build it at SF Duka.
